William
Willocks is a four-year-old boy who lives in Elizabethton, TN. William
was strapped securely into his carseat
system in the back seat of his dad's SUV in December 2007. As they
rounded a curve,
there was suddenly a vehicle headed toward them in their
lane. If William's dad couldn't react quickly enough, they would be hit
head-on. Despite his best efforts, they were hit on the driver's
side and the dad was knocked unconscious. Later we would find out that
he had a broken collarbone and a broken nose. There was plenty of blood
and broken
bones for the young child to see.
However, William remained calm.
When paramedics arrived, they had to cut
William's daddy out of the vehicle. However, William was still in his
spot, secure and unharmed.
That evening, William spoke to his
grandmother. “Do you
know what happened today? There was an angel in the car with us. The
angel said, 'be strong William, be strong.' Then there was a loud
noise.”
The noise was the sound of the crash. His
family reports that he was not traumatized in any
way, but he is really excited about sharing his angel story with
everyone who will listen.
In case you don't know four-year-olds, let
me assure you that they
are not in the habit of using phrases like “be
strong.”
When I told Kevin Eller about it, he added
more to
the story. You see, in one of those inexplicable tangles, Kevin was
driving the West Carter County VFD crash truck that day. He says they
spent about twenty minutes cutting William's dad out of his SUV.
