Book Reviews

We want to share books that we've been reading--but we'd like to hear from you, too! Read anything that really touched your heart lately? If so, use the form below to submit a review.

One of the hottest books on the market right now is this one: Radical, by David Platt (Amazon link below). Platt is a young pastor of a mega-church, but that's not the message he sends. Instead, he steps on your toes like he's right in the room, and challenges each of us to do something. If you want to feel your faith shaken, feel like doing something for God right now -- get the book. If you want to sit on your behind, don't get it.

Another great book we've read is this one: Irresistible Evangelism, by Sjogren, Ping, and Pollock (link below). If you're rolling your eyes right about now saying that knock-on-the-door stuff isn't for me--well, me either.

But that's not what the book is about. Instead, it flips around the common Protestant methodology. Instead of following the steps we usually go through of accept what I say, pray, join the church, and then I will totally accept you

This book recommends quietly accepting people right where they are, as Jesus did. Then you do random acts of kindness for them, again as Jesus did. Then they are ready to listen with an open heart. It's neat, and it works. And it's so much less intimidating for those of us who hate door-knocking.
